Volunteer opportunities

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet Association (SCDA) was created in 2018 to raise awareness of the benefits of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet™ (SCD™) while unifying the Community including followers, parents, caregivers, doctors, clinicians, companies and others around the world. We provide education, support, guidance and inspiration via social media platforms and conferences for the public and community to learn, network and support each other. And, we promote research of the SCD around the world.

Social Media and Digital Marketing Manager

Position Summary:

The Social Media and Digital Marketing Manager will be experienced, tech-savvy, and creative professional to continue to build the organization’s online and media presence. The position includes content creation for the organization’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, TikTok, website) as well as email communications.  The Social Media and Digital Marketing Manager will develop and supplement strategic campaigns to attract  current and new followers and build brand awareness on a global level. The successful candidate will have excellent writing skills, demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms, aptitude for marketing and communications, ability to demonstrate engagement via social media analytics, and awareness of best practices as they evolve. 

Responsibilities:

  • Map out a comprehensive social media marketing plan to engage current and new followers and expand our audiences across all platforms
  • Develop, update, and manage content for website, ensuring that it is current and engaging
  • Understand the organization’s desired constituencies and develop messaging – in conjunction with other staff – to engage those audiences
  • Manage reporting and analytics for all social channels, while tracking and evaluating the overall performance of channels to develop more effective strategies and campaigns
  • Create powerful and engaging social media content with on-brand imagery
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design, and strategy
  • Create e-blasts via Mailchimp/Constant Contact on a regular basis
  • Produce livestreams and maintain SCD Video Library

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet Association mission
  • Excellent writer, editor, and proofreader, who is able to convey messages succinctly and has a feel for storytelling
  • Ability to write, edit, and produce compelling and accurate content
  • Proven success as a digital marketer with experience using social media platforms
  • Proficiency in WordPress and Mailchimp
  • Understanding of on-page and off-page SEO tactics
  • Extensive experience building and maintaining a robust follower base across all major social media platforms
  • Creative thinker with a distinctive voice
  • Flexible, adaptable, and highly organized
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability to create and articulate an overall vision, while simultaneously identifying and monitoring the steps that will bring the vision to fruition
  • Understanding of paid digital advertising (Facebook and Google)
  • Video production experience helpful but not required

Manager of Development

Position Summary:

The Manager of Development will be responsible for developing and executing a fundraising and sponsorship development plan to increase revenue that will include seasonal appeals, grants, sponsorships  through all social media channels and charity giving portals (Benevity, Network for Good, Amazon Smile, Paypal, Fidelity Giving Marketplace) as well as email communications. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a fundraising and sponsorship development plan
  • Develop, update, and manage donation and sponsorship website pages in collaboration with the Social Media & Marketing Manager, ensuring that it is current and engaging
  • Manage donor and sponsor lists, prepare acknowledgement letters, advise Board of the engagement of donors/sponsors, maintain meticulous donor records
  • Ability to extract and analyze development data to document outcomes and progress
  • Research and respond to grant opportunities, write grants and coordinate colleagues
  • Cultivate donors/sponsors  and increase effectiveness of reaching the public. 
  • Create e-blasts via Mailchimp/Constant Contact on a regular basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, sponsorships and other forms of development with demonstrated successes
  • Experience with online communications, charity giving portals and payment channels
  • Organized, detail oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet Association mission
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability to create and articulate an overall vision, while simultaneously identifying and monitoring the steps that will bring the vision to fruition
  • Understanding of paid digital advertising (Facebook and Google)

Conference Operations Manager

Position Summary:

The Conference Operations Manager will be responsible for developing, executing and overseeing the operations and logistics of all online and in-person engagement events, including the annual conference. The Manager will work closely with the SCD Community to determine locations to best reach the community and public.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute online and in-person conferences
  • Represent the SCDA’s mission at every event
  • Manage every aspect of an event, from venue choice to success metrics
  • Keep financial and timelines under control at all times
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve fundraising and event revenue
  • Comply with all federal, state and local regulations for each event

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in event planning or event coordination
  • Track record of creative, successful online and in-person events
  • Ability to create and manage surveys
  • Organized, detail oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet Association mission
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability to create and articulate an overall vision, while simultaneously identifying and monitoring the steps that will bring the vision to fruition
  • Understanding of paid digital advertising (Facebook and Google)
